Having had a lousy couple of weeks, and with my stress levels close to bursting, I decided that a couple of days walking in Swaledale was required in order to calm me down.

Despite a weather forecast that predicted some very heavy showers the prospect of getting a good soaking seemed infinitely preferable to sitting at home worrying about something. Overnight B&B accommodation was booked in Swaledale.

Start of walk map ref :
By the village bridge crossing Dunnerside Gill - : SD950982

GUNNERSIDE
Lane :
West to the edge of the village

Footpath :
1.78 miles north, uphill to Knot Top, along Jingle Pot Edge and on to Black Hill summit.

BLACK HILL
Navigate :
0.54 miles east, downhill to join with the easily identifiable Silver Hill footpath/track.

Track/Footpath :
1.87 miles North to Boucher Gill Gate, continue north before turning west to High Whim. Continue to the top of Swimmer Gill Waterfalls.
Footpath :
3.06 miles ???
Don't miss the right turn, off the obvious track and then the left to take the footpath above Arngill Wood. The obvious track is not marked on my map and takes a line parralel, but higher that the footpath. It does however come out at the same place near Gunnerside Lodge. My preference is to take the lower footpath heading south along Arn Gill Scar and Ivelet Boards before turning east along Kisdon Scar and Cock Crow Scar to join with a lane near Gunnerside Lodge.
Lane :
0.41 miles east, following the lane around Gunnerside Lodge and south into Ivelet.

IVELET
Footpath :
0.93 miles east over Shore Gill to Marble Scar and follow the left footpath into Gunnerside.
