Today's walk is strenuous with a steep ascent of nearly 1400ft / 740m to Skiddaw summit with no path to follow. The route up the north side of Skiddaw is not shown on the map from above Melbecks Farm to the summit. The path ends at the wall, after which it is open fell to the top.

BASSENTHWAITE - Chapel Bridge
Lane :
Northeast to a bend in the lane.
Footpath :
Northeast to lane.
Lane :
East past Burthwaite, turning left at the junction, past entrance for Melbecks and on to a sharp left bend to find a footpath.
Footpath :
Southeast, uphill via Cockup Gill to end of wall.
Navigate :
Ascend the open fellside easterly, then turning southerly to reach Broad End (833m). Continue south to Skiddaw.

SKIDDAW (3054ft / 931m)
Footpath :
Descend by the southerly footpath turning southeasterly below Little Man to Latrigg car park.
Cumbria Way Footpath :
Southeasterly past Ewe How to Briar Rigg at Keswick.
